Linfield College announces the search for Library Director and invites applications for this exceptional opportunity. The successful candidate will be an inspiring and successful professional who is committed to the College's mission of providing high quality liberal arts education and professional preparation.  The Linfield College Library Director works collaboratively to establish the strategic direction of the libraries and their relationship with the college. The Library Director champions the values and ethics of librarianship and their application to programs and services that further the library and college mission. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership to library faculty, staff and students to achieve the mission of the libraries
  • Coordinate planning aligned with the College's Strategic Plan and Core Themes
  • Oversee all aspects of the libraries including the organization, administrative operation, personnel, assessment of library services, archives, facilities, staff, collections, budgets, access services, and educational media services.
  • Foster relationships with on- and off-campus constituents to enhance library services, resources and efficiency
  • Serve on the Orbis Cascade Alliance Council
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of library programs, resources and services
  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance information literacy program
  • Participate in college governance by serving on college-wide committees and taskforces including the Academic Innovation Council and the Technology Advisory Committee
  • Work with Institutional Advancement to establish and build relationships with donors to support and advance the Libraries' mission
  • Build a collegial and cooperative working environment in which professional education is supported
  • Maintain currency with issues and trends in professional librarianship through participation in local, state, regional and national associations as well as scholarly activity and professional engagement.

 Required qualifications:

  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited library program
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in libraries or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Evidence of success in the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships with stakeholders within and outside of the organization or institution
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with stakeholders
  • Evidence of planning and analytical skills
  • Robust commitment to information literacy, and a strong understanding of new and developing trends in higher education
  • Knowledge of physical and digital library environments and fluency in the application of informational technology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A record of professional and/or scholarly contributions to the field

 Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience at a liberal arts institution
  • Experience working with undergraduates
  • Experience with library consortia
  • Teaching experience
  • Collaborate with the local community on events and other outreach opportunities
