The Department of Facilities and Auxiliary Services is recruiting to fill an opening for the Properties Technician. The Properties Technician is responsible for the physical setup and breakdown of campus conferences and events.  Assess, repair and deliver replacement furniture for residence halls, administrative offices, academic buildings and campus apartments. Conduct periodic physical inventory inspections of property in warehouses, academic buildings, residence halls, administrative offices and campus apartments. Work Schedule:

This full-time position is generally scheduled Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-7pm, although there will be some flexibility needed to accommodate evening and weekend events on campus.  Employee schedule will be based upon the needs of the campus and the event schedule.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by ensuring that all event setups and breakdowns are completed in a timely and efficient manner per the specifications indicated on each work order.
  • Properly store furnishings and equipment and/or deliver items to the next setup location.
  • Ensure that all furnishings and equipment used for residential, academic and campus events are properly maintained in a clean and functional condition.
  • Conduct and record physical inventory inspections of property in warehouses, academic buildings, residence halls, administrative offices and campus apartments. Receive and properly inventory incoming and outgoing property items.
  • Provide on-site maintenance of residence hall furniture, including requests to bunk/un-bunk beds.
  • Provide on-site repair of residence hall furniture as appropriate. For repairs that cannot be made on-site, transport the item(s) to the Facilities Services building for repair and/or deliver replacement furniture as needed.
  • Assess, repair and/or request replacement of window covering devices, including blinds.
  • Remove and properly dispose of damaged-beyond-repair furniture.
  • Maintain assigned tool box and ensure tools are operational. Immediately notify Supervisor of any broken tools.
  • Serve to back-up Mail Services personnel as necessary to conduct campus delivery route.
  • Assist the department in the accomplishment of goals by performing duties that may fall out of normal job requirements for this position.
  • Provide department guidance and/or clarification on department processes assigned to students and temporary employees. Assist in training of staff and students on safe use of college owned equipment and vehicles.
  • Comply with College safety standards and policies and OSHA regulations including those relating to the use of personal protective equipment. Ensure student employees use safe work practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including following all College policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months work experience performing similar duties (or equivalent education and experience), demonstrating:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and with a minimum amount of supervision
  • Ability to interpret and accurately execute written and verbal instructions
  • Mechanical skills in operating small power tools and hand tools
  • Furniture repair or woodworking skills
  • Basic skills in operation of personal computer
  • Ability to operate a forklift and aerial lift (current certification or ability to become certified within 3 months of employment in this position)
  • Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to become/remain certified to drive Linfield College vehicles

 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions.  Tasks are physical in nature requiring:  constant seeing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, hearing, repetitive motion of arms, wrists, hands and fingers, climbing stairs and ladders (4-14 foot step ladder, 20+-foot extension ladder). Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 150 pounds using proper ergonomic techniques such as utilizing team lifting, mechanical tools or alternative methods.  Work includes exposure to industrial hazards such as noise, machinery, hazardous materials and nuisance dust.  Routinely operates a variety of motorized vehicles, including a utility cart, van, minivan or box truck.
